ECCT was proud to be part of a large collaborative resilience project for 19 sites across Tairāwhiti that was completed before the end of 2023. This project was initiated and led by Emergency Managment group manager, Ben Green
Equipment for the resilience kits had the support and financial input from iwi, the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, Red Cross, St John, Te Puni Kokiri, Trust Tairāwhiti, Think Water, Gisborne Honda, and ECCT.
The community resilience kits included specialist emergency equipment that will enable a community-led response if communities are cut off after a catastrophic event. Kits included critical items such as water treatment units that can treat salt water or compromised water sources, mass first aid kids, hybrid solar energy units, satellite phones, large emergency tents etc.
Ben Green, Emergency Management group manger commented “these specialist kits have been compiled based on catastrophic risk planning and these resilience packages represent significant capability embedded at community level”.
Ben also added that the amazing collaboration that occurred across iwi, council, government agencies, funders and companies was one of the biggest highlights and successes of this initiative.
This funding aligns with ECCT's Priority Communities of Māori, People living rurally or in isolation, and Communities facing hardship. This also aligns with the Hononga | Partnerships and Mana Taurite | Equity Pou.
