How we Fund
Eastern & Central Community Trust’s aim is to support community initiatives that can help build stronger, more sustainable communities. We therefore look for applications that align with our Priority Outcomes, and, if possible, work with our Strategic Focus areas.
We currently have two main funds open for grants on an ongoing basis: Grassroots & Community Assets Facilities Fund.
Then we have the more specific Strategic and Innovation Funds. Only the Strategic Fund is operational at this time.
The Grassroots Fund is to ensure communities have access to services, events and initiatives that they value. It is designed to support a broad range of positive activities that contribute to ECCT’s Priority Outcomes, to achieve our vision.
The goals of the fund are to maintain valuable community services, events, clubs and other community initiatives; support a range of social and recreational activities that help build stronger, more sustainable communities; and build capacity and collaboration. There are four funding pathways under which organisations can apply for funding: –
In general, funding can go towards operating costs, programme costs, coaching, events, equipment, small assets, vehicles, repairs and maintenance, and grassroot regional or local activities.
It will support project-based development activities to assist with community-led consultation and planning, community-based partnerships, and support community leadership and capacity development. It will also support a limited range of educational projects. The Grassroots Fund is contestable and can grant up to $30,000 (GST excl.). Capital projects can receive up to $50,000 (GST excl.). Guarantees Against Loss of up to $20,000 (GST excl.) are available for significant local and district events.
For more details on the different pathways and requirements for application, check out the Grassroots Fund page.
Community Assets Facilities Fund (CAFF)
The Community Assets & Facilities Fund is designed to help communities create and maintain the community assets and facilities needed to meaningfully participate in community life. This fund is for projects that need funding of between $30,000 – $250,000.
If you have a community asset that needs to be built, developed or maintained, have a conversation with us about how we may be able to help.
Please note: we are unlikely to fully fund a project by ourselves. We may ask if you have other funders arranged, and how much you will be putting towards a project yourselves.

Strategic Fund – Rangatahi Strategy / Rangatahi Action Plan

For more in-depth information please see the following pages Rangatahi Action Plan.
Further details to be announced in 2023.
