Cyclone Gabrielle Commemoration funding - Tairāwhiti

ECCT in partnership with Te Whatu Ora and Trust Tairāwhiti provided over $242,000 in funding to support community-led commemoration events and initiatives across Tairāwhiti, to mark the anniversary of Cyclone Gabrielle.
ECCT provided funding via Trust Tairāwhiti in order to simply the process and not place more burden on the communities. The many activities were to honour the resilience and strength of the communities that have endured hardship during and after the disaster. Events ranged from free community BBQ’s, kaumatua breakfasts, workshops in preparedness, wananga, community markets, and live music events.
