New Environmental Partnership launched in Hawke's Bay

Two funding rounds will be available each year to support community groups bring their local biodiversity projects to life.

The fund, managed by Biodiversity Hawke’s Bay, has played a vital role in supporting community-led biodiversity initiatives across the region in recent years.  With the addition of ECCT as a funding partner, the fund’s impact will grow, and opportunities for conservation and restoration efforts across Hawke’s Bay will be boosted.

Regional Council Manager Catchment Operations Jolene Townshend welcomed the partnership as a vital step forward. “We know we can’t solve the biodiversity crisis alone, and the challenges we face require collaborative solutions. We’re thrilled to have ECCT join us to support community-driven environmental projects, and together we’re committed to enhancing biodiversity in our region. By combining our resources, we can help more groups overcome financial barriers to achieve great things for our environment.”

ECCT’s Chief Executive Officer, David Clapperton highlighted how the partnership aligns with the Trust’s values and objectives.

Biodiversity Hawke’s Bay General Manager Debbie Monahan also commended the expanded funding.

“Partnerships like this are key to driving real change. With the continued support of Regional Council, and with ECCT coming on board with funding, we can reach more people and support more innovative projects that protect and enhance rare native species and ecosystems. Biodiversity is crucial to a healthy environment and our communities. This enhanced fund offers an incredible opportunity for groups to contribute to a thriving natural landscape in Hawke’s Bay.”

The fund will reopen in March 2025, with a second round in October 2025.  Details on how to apply will be available soon on the Biodiversity Hawke’s Bay website.
