Rangatahi Project

Eastern and Central Community Trust (ECCT) recognise that children and young people are key priorities in the rohe it serves, which is why it is a strategic focus area in our Funding Strategy.

ECCT are developing a Rangatahi Action Plan to guide funding decisions over the next five years, in order to support young people aged 10 – 24 years to reach their potential.

$250,000 has been committed to developing the Action Plan, which will lead to additional funding being committed to younger people in the future. Trustees have earmarked an additional $3M to deliver strategic focus area initiatives during the next two years, which includes this project.

ECCT is committed to contributing to positive youth development outcomes for the regions we serve.

ECCT is seeking to partner with rangatahi to develop the action plan in a way that honours the Mana Taiohi principles for Aotearoa’s youth development sector, and supports whai wāhitanga (young people’s participation).

A draft Engagement Model has been developed from our initial meetings with organisations and kaimahi taiohi across the region, who are working at the local level to ensure their young people feel valued, connected to their community, empowered and supported to reach their full potential.

Over the coming months we want to review and revise this with young people in our community and develop the Rangatahi Action Plan together.
